ReSaurus To Import Parappa the Rapper and Um Jammer Lammy ToysPopular Japanese Collectibles Come to the U.S. for the First Time
Merchandise from the runaway hit PlayStation game has become highly sought after, since it was previously available only in Japan. "Parappa and Um Jammer Lammy has sparked a huge craze among kids in Japan setting trends in fashion, music and toys." said Doug Sapp, ReSaurus president. "American fans of these cool games have craved Parappa product a long time and now they've got it coming." Parappa the Rapper became a smash hit when it was released for the Sony PlayStation in late 1997. The game was a radical departure from everything else on the market, since the object of the game is to help cartoon animals learn how to rap and sing. Parents and kids everywhere were immediately drawn to the infectious songs and cool characters of the innovative game. The sequel Um Jammer Lammy features many returning characters, but the emphasis will be on the hip guitar-playing title character, Lammy, rather than on Parappa. Parappa does make an appearance in the game when all of the levels are completed successfully. Toys for all of the characters are available in Japan, but up until now the only way for American fans to get them is through expensive overseas dealers. ReSaurus is stepping in to help meet the demand for Parappa merchandise. In addition to importing the already existing products, ReSaurus will also be producing their own Parappa and Um Lammy Jammer toys in the future. Look for the Parappa and Sunny Flower Dancing Figures (MSRP$4.99); Parappa, Sunny Flower and Um Jammer Lammy 10" Collectible Dolls (MSRP$9.99); and a larger Um Jammer Lammy Collectible Doll with electronic guitar (price to be determined). Product will be on mass market shelves in October.

ReSaurus, Capcom Strike Deal for Street FighterReSaurus to Release Action Figures Based on Popular Video-Game ReSaurus Company, Inc. recently acquired the rights to produce action figures based on Capcom's flagship videogame Street Fighter -- once again establishing ReSaurus as the top videogame action figure creator in the toy industry. Entertainment Licensing Associates (ELA), Capcom's merchandising agent, negotiated the deal between the two parties.
The first wave of figures to be in mass retail stores fourth quarter 1999 will include Ryu, Ken, Alex, Cammy, Blanka, and Vega. Suggested retail price will be $7.99-$9.99. "We're making the product line highly collectible by looking at all the Street Fighter games and basing the likenesses on the coolest characters," said Steve Hamaker, senior product designer. "For instance, in the first release of figures Alex' likeness will be based on his representation in Street Fighter III and Cammy will be adorned in her original green/red costume in the original Street Fighter series." The rest of the first series will based on the new Street Fighter: Alpha 3 series. The new figures will be packaged individually in an innovative collector blister card, said Hamaker. ReSaurus will also release a series of action figures based on the Street Fighter characters from Pocket Fighters. These figures will include Ryu, Guile, Chun-Li, Blanka, Akuma and Zangief. The Pocket Fighter series caters to a younger audience as well as our collector fans, according to Hamaker. "Our ability to meet the desires and demands of the collector market as well as making figures with high play value for the kids at a great value provides us with an edge over our competitors," said Sapp. "ReSaurus has a flair for understanding the special qualities of a property and capturing them faithfully into their products," said ELA president Daniel Kletzky.
